Stop Harassment

What is it like being subjected to harassment of any context? Let it be physical, verbal or even sexual; what would you do to escape that bubble of torment?

How many of us are victims to such aggressive and inhuman behaviors? Are we ever heard out if we cry out in pain of what is being done to us? In this world, we have all grown to be invisible to those who are in need and are more subjective to turn a blind eye or deaf ear.

Both men and women are subjected to these malpractices, even at young ages. There are many who suffer in silence, fearful of the consequences that would arise when being exposed, living in fear of threats that are unfathomable. There are those who can control their own physical and psychological selves when exposed to harassments, others know how to tackle such instances in life to have the harassments reduce to an extent and there are those who have no option or say in the matter.

There are many cases where harassment is displayed, that it is difficult to even been visible to the naked eye.

One such instance of physical and verbal harassment, is a competition for example. This is of a short story that I came across; it was a gymnastics competition and the three winners where chosen. The boy who got second place wasn’t happy at all and neither was his mother, whereas the girl who won first place smiled and her mother was over joyed.

When the young boy went home, his mother angry in her state, kept beating him till his skin tore open, on repeat she kept saying of how much he disappointed her and how he was worthless and wouldn’t amount to anything. These words kept echoing in the young boy’s head while his mother kept beating. When she stopped and feeling all drained out, the young boy crawled into his room. The pain he felt, was unbearable that he started to develop feelings of anger and wanted to take it out on the girl who won first place at the competition.

Covering his wounds, he jumped out of his room window and waited in an alley way, he spotted the girl coming out from a grocery store and waited for her to pass him. When she approached the alley, he grabbed her and held her down and was trying beat her up. He wanted her to feel the pain he underwent, he was succumbed in anger towards her for he found it unfair that she was living a comfortable life and he had to deal with the painful, bloody blows from his mother.

The girl kept pushing him off, trying to fend for herself, by hitting the boy and struggling to protect herself; when she was able to push him back off of her, she turned around to get up, but the boy rushed to her and grabbed her blouse. Creating a tug of war, the blouse was ripped off her body and there to the young boy’s eyes did he see the truth. The girl’s back was lashed, her wounds untreated and to the boy’s horror, his eyes were filled with tears. Realizing that both of them were subjected to harassment from the pressure of their parents made them develop a strong bond where in the end they became inseparable.

So through this story one can understand that harassment is there and there are those who are able to cope with it. There are some cases where not many would lucky to even survive such trauma, some would go to the extremes to even hurt themselves to just escape the toxic environment.

Sexual harassment is another dimension of pain and torture. It is a harassment that completely destroys not only the victim but the life of the victim. Did you know, that the United States of America has such cases but only a few are saved, when they are in hospital? These victims of sexual harassment, take refuge in hospitals and at first they are very reluctant to explain their story to their doctors, but thus are encouraged to do so and is given justice to whatever they have faced.

However some countries aren’t that lucky, in depth some people aren’t that lucky either. I was one of them, I was subjected to sexual harassment and truth be told it changed how I saw the world. Through time, I came to realize that people take the words ‘ marriage’ and ‘sex’ for fun. Their true purpose isn’t respected; for some these words are taboo and for others these words are fear. Not everyone understands their true meaning.

What people fail to see is that both of them share a common thing, the bond between two people, that is to be eternal and forever. But unfortunately it isn’t practiced nor is it though of. People wish for temporary happiness, temporary pleasure and temporary lifestyles. Nothing gained from doing such activity. Both men and women view the world differently because of such sadness being brought unto them. Some have the courage to stand up to it, but others become more and more distant and isolated with the world.

Nothing is ever gained from such contemplations or actions. Being more human and more sincere only will help enable us to carry the light of a secure future and one day we will be able to give that security to the next generation. What a wonderful world it would be, if there was less pain and more love. This can only be achieved if we choose to make a change and be the change.
